33rd PPA Conference & Trade Exhibition
Fiji
26 – 29 October 2026
The Annual PPA Conference and Trade Exhibition is the premier platform for knowledge‑sharing, offering valuable insights into the latest developments and key challenges in the Pacific energy sector. Each year, a diverse group of electric utilities and energy professionals—including project developers, equipment suppliers, service providers, regional organizations, government representatives, and development partners—gathers at a Pacific location to network, discuss issues, exchange expertise, and explore business opportunities.
In 2026, PPA delegates will convene in Fiji from 26–29 October for this flagship event.
33rd Annual Conference & Trade Exhibition
Theme: Ensuring fair rates and reliable services while accelerating investments in renewable energy and grids.
When we refer to an energy system, we are speaking about the entire system as a whole—not just power systems. “Energy,” as used in the conference theme, is a broader and more inclusive term that aligns with the objectives of digital transformation in modern grids. It encompasses the long‑term management of electricity generation, storage, and consumption, which is fundamental to the success of smart grids. This reflects the shift toward a more holistic approach to energy management, covering everything from energy production—whether diesel‑based or renewable—to storage, end‑use consumption, and digital optimization, rather than focusing solely on instantaneous power flow as traditional power systems often do.
In contrast, power systems focus specifically on the generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity. While these functions are essential, they represent only one component of the broader picture when discussing the digital transformation of energy systems. The integration of digital technologies such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things is reshaping how energy systems operate. This digital transformation aims to enhance efficiency, sustainability, and resilience across electricity generation, transmission, and consumption.
Associated Side Events
As part of the Annual Conference, and running concurrently with the main program, specialized workshops will be offered for Utility Board Directors, engineers, and technical staff.
Members of the PPA and invited guests are welcome to propose papers for presentations at the 33rd Annual Conference and Trade Exhibition. The proposed papers can be based on case studies, projects, and other works relevant to the theme.
- Papers are NOT to be commercial in nature but can explain principles of commercially available technologies.
- The official language of the conference and proceedings is English.
- It is important that any paper in PowerPoint presentation form should also be accompanied on USB by an associated full article on the same topic suitable for inclusion in the Pacific Power Magazine. (i.e., with written text or Word format).
- In the case of Papers accepted for the conference, the authors or his/her representative will be expected to attend to make the presentation. Submission of an abstract therefore implies a willingness to attend. Please check any necessary formalities concerning attendance to the Conference before submitting the abstract.
It is noted in previous conferences that the above conditions have not been fully complied with. It is a pre-requisite of acceptance that presentations for the Conference strictly conform to these conditions.
Presentation of papers is open only to members of the Pacific Power Association. If there are insufficient papers from members, then the Secretariat will seek contributions from outside the membership.
The deadline for submission of abstracts is 31 July 2026 at 16:30 Suva time (+12 GMT). Submissions must be short (no more than 200 words) and to the point. Abstracts should not have a lot of general theory and background. Instead, they should highlight innovations, concrete outcomes, and achievements, and explain why and how the presentation will provide value to the delegates attending the event. The abstract together with a brief CV/Bio (less than 100 words) and a passport size photo of the author should be emailed to the Secretariat.
Authors will be notified of acceptance (or otherwise) as soon as the Abstracts have been reviewed by the Secretariat. This notification will be provided no later than 16 August 2025. Final Papers must be emailed to the Secretariat by 21 August 2026.
It is a condition of approval to present that both the power point presentation and the paper in word format are provided to the PPA Secretariat by no later than 25 September 2026.
Conference or Technical papers will be presented for 20 minutes with an added 10 minutes for questions and answers. Facilities available at the Conference venue for presentations will include PowerPoint and a multimedia projector.
