Palau, officially the Republic of Palau, is an island country in the Micronesia subregion of Oceania in the western Pacific Ocean. The republic consists of approximately 340 islands and is the western part of the Caroline Islands, while the eastern and central parts make up the Federated States of Micronesia.
History:
Palau was initially settled around 1000 BC. Palau was likely sighted for the first time by Europeans as early as 1522, when the Spanish mission of the Trinidad, the flagship of Ferdinand Magellan’s voyage of circumnavigation, sighted two small islands around the 5th parallel north, naming them “San Juan” without visiting them.
Climate:
Palau enjoys a pleasantly warm climate all year round with an annual mean temperature of 82° degrees F. (27° C.). Rainfall can occur throughout the year, and the annual average is 150 inches. The average relative humidity is 82%, and although rain falls more frequently between July and October, there is still much sunshine. Typhoons are rare as Palau is located outside the typhoon zone.
Language:
English is spoken widely, and Palauan is a fun language to learn. Many service providers speak English, Mandarin, Cantonese or Japanese.

In Palau, healthcare is primarily provided through the public “Belau National Hospital” located in Koror, which is the only national hospital, alongside a small number of private clinics and community health centres spread across the islands. Koror has four private medical clinics and a Public Hospital, the Belau National Hospital for outpatient and emergency cases.

Visa & Entry:
The Division of Immigration is strongly committed to the effective management of the movement of people to protect Palau’s interests. All arriving and departing passengers must have a valid passport or travel document. Arriving passengers including foreign nationals and Palauan citizens are required to provide their passport or travel documentation and other required information to the Division of Immigration. If you are a foreign national you must hold a valid visa or work permit when entering Palau, except those nationals from the FSM, RMI and USA. Passengers must submit the Palau Entry Form at most 72 hours before departure at https://www.palautravel.pw/. This will generate a QR code, which must be presented on a mobile device or printed copy during check-in and upon arrival.

Religion:
Christianity is the dominant religion in Palau, practiced by around 72.8% of the total population, according to the 2022 census. Freedom of religion is enshrined in Palau’s constitution.
