GROUND-BASED DATA COLLECTION

Phase 2 of the Solar and Wind Measurement Campaign in the Pacific involves the installation of high quality solar and wind measurement equipment, with real-time data transmission and reporting, for the purpose of validating and improving the mesoscale model and generating reliable benchmarking data. Data will be collected from each of the solar stations for a period of 24 months while the wind stations will collect data for a period of 12months before they are moved to another location. The sites for the installation of the equipment have been chosen based on a combination of desk based research as well as on-site surveys carried out by technical experts engaged by the PPA with the assistance of the local power utilities.

Nauru Solar Monitoring Station

Solar Monitoring stations have been installed at the following locations:

  • Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia
  • Marshall Islands
  • Nauru
  • Palau
  • Papua New Guinea
  • Solomon Islands
  • Tuvalu
  • Vanuatu

Wind Monitoring (LIDAR) stations have been installed at the following locations:

  • Marshall Islands (installation delayed)
  • Samoa
  • Solomon Islands
  • Tonga
  • Tuvalu
